This is the last Will and Testament of me Alice Alefounder of Colchester in the County of Essex Widow being sick and weak in Body but of sound and disposing Mind and Memory (praised be God for the same) In the first place I resign my immortal Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping for eternal Life through the Merits and Righteousness of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer, my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named in the church yard of Saint Leonards in Colchester aforesaid as near my late Husband Upcher Alefounder as may be But my desire is not to be buried until my Body shalt begin to Putrify and as to my Wordly Estate I dispose thereof as follows, to wit, I give to my esteemed Friend The Reverend Giles Hobbs of Colchester aforesaid Dissenting Minister my Pebble Snuff Box which I usually wear in my Pocket And I give to my Nephew Stephen Hempsted of Market Ilstey in the County of Berks Surgeon my Silver Tankard (being Family Plate) Moreover I give to my Grandson George Alefounder four large Silver Table Spoons twelve Silver Tea Spoons two Silver Salt Spoons a pair of Silver Tea Tongs, my Metal Watch and the Copper Plate Picture of him my said Grandson with his cousin Anna Maria Jane Alefounder as the same Picture is framed and Glazed and called "Pleasing Intelligence" Also I give to my said Grandson George Alefounder all and every my Household Goods Chattels Furniture Plate Linen Apparel Books and other Effects Monies in hand Debts due and owing to me Security and Securities for Money and all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever (not otherwise by this my Will expressly disposed of) to and for his own sole Use and benefit he my said Grandson paying thereout all my just Debts Funeral Expenses and the charges attending the proving and executing this my Will with other incidental expenses And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said Nephew Stephen Hempsted and my esteemed Friend The Reverend William Kemp of Colchester aforesaid Dissenting Minister Executors of this my Will and appoint unto them all reasonable charges and expenses as such Executors And my Will e that neither of them shall be charged with any more Monies Goods or other Effects than what shall actually come into their hands by virtue of this my Will nor for any loss of the same Provided such loss should happen without his or their wilful default nor shall either of them be answerable for the Acts or Doings the one for the other but each of them for his own Acts and Deeds only And hereby revoking all other Wills by me made I declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto made my Mark and set my Seal this fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred The Mark of T Alice Alefounder [LS] Signed sealed Published and Declared by the said Testatrix Alice Alefounder as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses Francis Fenton Jo Diss
Proved on the sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one before the Reverend Robert Stony Clerk Surrogate &c by the Oath of William Kemp one of the Executors to whom Administration &c was granted He being first Sworn duly to Administer (Power being reserved of making the like grant to Stephen Hempsted the other Executor when he shall lawfully apply for the same.)
